Like blankets falling on blockades

The signal sounds, the boxes flew wide open
Ornamental gaze
And one by one we placed them on their shelves
On the ferns of old

But this is not about that Christmas
This is not about what could have been
The only hope we have for Christmas
Is forging past
To whatever lies ahead
Is taking back the things we love again
Is making sure we don’t make the same mistake again

The endless miles of painted road
To destinations split like poor charades
And there the warmth of faces young and old
